To combat the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and promote mental health awareness, the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) of Dueñas General Comprehensive High School (DGCHS), in collaboration with various partner clubs and Team Dugong Bughaw, successfully organized an informative symposium titled “Project Abot Kamay” (PAK) on January 23, 2025.
The event, primarily attended by Grade 11 students of DGCHS, aimed to enlighten the youth on the critical topics of sexual education and mental well-being. It sought to dispel myths, encourage open dialogue, and equip learners with knowledge essential for fostering a safer, healthier community.
The symposium featured two main speakers: Andy Martin Evidente, who led a discussion on HIV/AIDS titled “HIV 101”, and Raymart Eufracio, who focused on mental health awareness.

Evidente provided an in-depth presentation on the dangers of HIV/AIDS, emphasizing the importance of safe sex practices to combat the increasing cases of HIV in the Philippines. He also discussed the legal protections granted by the Philippine HIV and AIDS Policy Act (RA 11166), highlighting the human rights of individuals living with HIV. “There is still no cure for HIV, but you can prevent it,” he reminded the audience, underscoring the significance of preventive measures and education.
Meanwhile, Eufracio addressed the importance of mental health, encouraging students to practice self-care and be kind to themselves. In an engaging approach, he began and concluded his talk by asking the audience, “Kamusta ka?” (How are you?), fostering an environment of openness and empathy. Eufracio’s central message, “It’s okay not to be okay,” resonated with students, emphasizing the value of acknowledging emotions and seeking help when needed.

The event also featured performances from talented DGCHS students. Grade 11 Rizal students Elyza Belleza and Sian Italia captivated the audience with a heartfelt singing performance, while Grade 11 Silang energized the crowd with a dynamic dance number. Glen Dalio and Adrian Hucalla from Grade 11 Jaena also showcased their vocal talents, adding a lively and creative touch to the symposium.
Through interactive discussions, artistic performances, and the shared message of empowerment, Project Abot Kamay successfully underscored the importance of understanding both HIV/AIDS and mental health. Team Dugong Bughaw’s slogan, “KNOW the SCIENCE, STOP the STIGMA,” encapsulated the event’s mission to eliminate ignorance and discrimination, paving the way for a more informed and compassionate generation.
By combining education and creativity, the SSLG, partner organizations, and Team Dugong Bughaw demonstrated their commitment to addressing pressing issues in society, ensuring that no student is left behind in the fight against HIV/AIDS and the advocacy for mental well-being.
